Irving Penn was one of the 20th century’s most significant photographers, known for his arresting images, technical mastery, and quiet intensity. Throughout his long and remarkable career, Irving Penn was keenly attuned to the physical realization of his images, whether printed in the pages of Vogue or rendered as photographic prints in platinum and palladium, gelatin silver, dye transfer, or any of the other techniques he worked with and perfected. As the work in this auction illustrates, Penn was a true artistic genius whose vision and craftsmanship remain unequaled.
