Alexandrite, named after the Russian Czar Alexander II, is a rare gemstone for experts. It was first discovered in 1834 in the Ural Mountains of Russia. When exposed to different light sources, fine alexandrites have the fascinating and mysterious feature of colour-change, from bluish-green in daylight to a soft shade of purplish-red in incandescent light. The alexandrite ring (lot 56) shows prominent colour-change, with a flawless clarity, a truly understated gemstone with captivating power.
