A tale was told that Vitellius, a Roman general, financed his entire military campaign on just one pearl from his mother’s earrings. A single pearl is yielded in approximately 10,000 oysters in nature and only a minority of these pearl will be of desirable shapes, sizes and luster. Nowadays, natural pearls make up only approximately 1% of the entire pearl production and pearl oysters are no longer commercially fished. This pair of earrings gathers two pairs of matching natural pearls, one in a round button shape and the other in an appealing drop shape.
