Catalogue Essay
I am a huge admirer of Lange's guilloche and I find this Lange 1 to be its ultimate form, having the complex engraved pattern set crisply into the iridescent mother of pearl dial. Just as impressive is the white gold bracelet made by the legendary German jeweler Wellendorff. - Mark Cho

- 2001 marks the year A. Lange & Söhne introduced the Lange 1 Soirée to collectors, delivered in white gold with two dial variants of plain or guilloche mother-of-pearl.

- For those who appreciate the pinnacle of fine finishing, these lustrous works of art were made in extremely small quantities and are no longer in production. While the plain variant was discontinued in 2003, the embellished version ceased in 2009.

- The present Lange 1 is a true spectacle, boasting an iridescent mother-of-pearl dial, graced with hand-guilloched finishes that further elevates its natural brilliance.

- Fitted in a white gold case matched with a rare A. Lange & Söhne beads of rice bracelet made by Wellendorff, the present example retains all the desired elements of a quintessential Lange 1, featuring the iconic oversized date apertures at 2 o’clock, power reserve indication at 3 o’clock, an hours and minutes register and a small seconds subsidiary dial.

- Offered in excellent overall conditions, the present Lange 1 Soirée is a rare bird, designed to impress and will immediately elevate any outfit.

A. Lange & Söhne

German | 1845
Originally founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Glashütte, Dresden, Germany, the firm established an entire watchmaking culture and industry in Glashütte. The brand quickly became Germany's finest watchmaker, first creating dependable, easy-to-repair watches before going on to produce some of the world's finest complicated pocket watches, including Grande Sonnerie watches, tourbillon watches and Grande Complications.
On the final day of World War II, their factories were destroyed by Russian bombers, and in 1948 the brand was confiscated by the Soviet Union. Following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, Ferdinand's great grandson Walter Lange re-established the brand with the objective to once again produce top-quality luxury watches. Now part of the Richemont Group, its original vintage and modern creations are highly coveted by collectors. Key models from the modern era include the Lange 1, Pour Le Mérite Tourbillon and the Zeitwerk.
