Catalogue Essay
In 2002, Audemars Piguet began sponsoring Swiss sailing team Alinghi. Soon, a first Alinghi timepiece was release (2005), followed in 2007 by the present Royal Oak Offshore Alinghi Team. Realized in three versions in platinum, pink gold and the present forged carbon one, this last iteration represents the first watch with forged carbon case to appear on the market and was made in 1300 pieces, this being number 387.
The regatta chronograph complication was devised specifically for the nautical sport, and features a 10 minutes countdown window at ten. At the first gunshot ten minutes before the start of the race, the chronograph is activated, and the remaining minutes before the start can be instantaneously seen through the 3 o’clock window.
