The Royal Oak can be described as the iron pillar of the manufacturer with an incredibly successful reception since launching its first model in 1972. Designed by Gerald Genta, it was the first of its kind and was the most expensive luxury timepiece in stainless steel. In 1993, Audemars Piguet introduced a modern iteration of the Royal Oak and featured a chronograph, pumped up case dimensions and was named the Royal Oak Offshore.
In 1998, Audemars Piguet launched a limited edition ref. 25887ST.O.1010ST.01 to commemorate the Winter Olympics of 1998 which was held in Nagano, Japan. Featuring a triple calendar complication and fitted with an electrifying blue dial and only 98 examples produced, the reference is most certainly rare. The present example is numbered 85/98 and presented in excellent overall condition.
