Catalogue Essay
Does the Royal Oak still need an introduction? For close to 50 years it has been a symbol of audacity, suave coolness and innovation.

Not only was it the first luxury sports watch but in 1982, 10 years after its launch it was offered with a perpetual calendar making it the very first sports watch with a complication. not only a rare complication at the time, as very few brands were still producing them, but the audacity of housing this delicate complication in a steel sports watch was mind boggling.

Today the Royal Oak is available with a multitude of complications including the tourbillon, minute repeater etc..

One of the latest additions to the Royal Oak family is the present perpetual calendar in steel with a 41mm steel case.A new case needed a new movement and Audemars Piguet developed the caliber 5134 which is based on the extra slim caliber 2120 found in the original Royal Oak A Series. While the movement is larger to fit the larger case it remains relatively slim for greater ease of wear. This timepiece features an extra complication with the addition of a 52 week calendar indication.

The beautiful dial definitely benefits from the enlargement of the case as it is not only more legible but the contrast between the tapisserie dial, brushed surfaces and the indexes adds incredible oomph to the overall aesthetics, the icing on the case comes with the beautiful moonphase display representing a photorealistic moon on a lapis background representing a starry sky.

In unworn condition, coming full set with box, winder, paperwork, and extra links the watch is further offered by a beautiful set of Royal Oak cufflinks that would perfectly complement the watch.

Audemars Piguet

Swiss | 1881
A specialist in the manufacture of complications since it was established in 1881, Audemars Piguet never ceases to impress with a rich history of creating bold, even audacious, timepieces underpinned by traditional watchmaking at its finest. This Le Brassus-based Swiss manufacturer is one of only two major manufacturers still owned by the founding family. Since its earliest days, AP is considered a leader in the field of minute repeaters and grande complication pocket and wristwatches. The brand is devoted to preserving the history of watchmaking in the Vallée de Joux, showcased at their superb museum in Le Brassus.
Today, the brand is best known for its Royal Oak models, a revolutionary luxury sports watch launched in 1972. Other key models include early minute repeating wristwatches, vintage chronograph wristwatches, such as the oversized reference 5020, perpetual calendar watches and the Royal Oak Offshore, first introduced in 1993.
