Catalogue Essay
Designed by the great Gerald Genta and executed by Audemars Piguet in 1972, the Royal Oak was the industry’s first luxury sports wristwatch in stainless steel with an integrated bracelet commanding the price of a gold wristwatch. Inspired by the porthole of a ship, the iconic octagonal case with naked screws set on the bezel is with no doubt a revelation to the watch industry amidst the quartz crisis.

Since its initial launch, the Royal Oak has become the most important collection of timepieces offered by the Le Brassus based manufacturer, and in recent times it has become one of the most sought after timepieces in the market. In 2012, Audemars Piguet launched the refs. 15400 (41mm) and 15450 (37mm) with various case materials and dial colors. Extremely sought after in the market, it is rare to come across an example at the boutique, especially with a blue dial.

The present example Audemars Piguet Royal Oak ref. 15400ST fitted with a blue dial is offered in excellent overall condition accompanied by its full set of accessories.

Audemars Piguet

Swiss | 1881
A specialist in the manufacture of complications since it was established in 1881, Audemars Piguet never ceases to impress with a rich history of creating bold, even audacious, timepieces underpinned by traditional watchmaking at its finest. This Le Brassus-based Swiss manufacturer is one of only two major manufacturers still owned by the founding family. Since its earliest days, AP is considered a leader in the field of minute repeaters and grande complication pocket and wristwatches. The brand is devoted to preserving the history of watchmaking in the Vallée de Joux, showcased at their superb museum in Le Brassus.
Today, the brand is best known for its Royal Oak models, a revolutionary luxury sports watch launched in 1972. Other key models include early minute repeating wristwatches, vintage chronograph wristwatches, such as the oversized reference 5020, perpetual calendar watches and the Royal Oak Offshore, first introduced in 1993.
