Catalogue Essay
The reference 14802 saw the rebirth of the 39mm “Jumbo” Royal Oak for the 20th anniversary of the Royal Oak. Sold between 1992 and 2002, 691 examples were produced in steel (with 2 dial variations), 286 in yellow gold (with 4 dial variations), along with 20 in platinum (with 2 dial variations). Ref. 14802 introduced the first salmon pink dials as well as hammered "Tuscan blue" iterations, although there is no record of how many of these special dials were produced. In addition, a sapphire caseback revealed Calibre 2121 and most of the latter’s gold oscillating weights featured an anniversary motif accompanied by the case number.
The present yellow gold reference 14802 is beautifully complemented by an incredibly attractive ivory color dial. Audemars Piguet pushed the refinement even further by including a golden date disc to echo the aesthetics of the case and indexes, a subtle but important detail. This combination adds a lot of light and shine to the watch and gives it a “Miami Vice” look.
The present watch’s rotor bears the special anniversary engraving and the watch number.
Sold in 1993 the present Audemars Piguet Royal Oak ref. 14802BA is not only extremely well preserved but it is also accompanied by its original guarantee and fitted presentation box.
