Catalogue Essay
A new Royal Oak perpetual calendar model featuring this time a leap year indicator, reference 25820 was launched in 1996 and was in production until 2013. 628 pieces in steel, 107 pieces in yellow gold, 74 pieces in platinum, 11 in pink gold, 378 in steel and platinum, 15 in tantalum and yellow gold, 9 in tantalum and platinum, and 13 in tantalum and pink gold for a total of 1235 examples.

The Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar, released in 1984, was powered by the world's thinnest renowned cal. 2120/2800 with a Jaeger-LeCoultre base and was a total revelation, contributing to the overcoming of the quartz crisis. From 1984 to 1993, early examples of the model showcased a dial without a leap year indicator, whereas subsequent models from 1993 onwards have a leap year indicator. In 1995, the reference 25820 debuted, powered by the cal. 2120/2802 with leap year indicator like the present example. The casing is still distinctive and traditional in form, measuring a comfortable 39mm in diameter and being kept thin. The current stainless steel model has a lovely and appealing dark blue tapisserie dial and is furthermore in excellent condition. The large tapisserie adds another level of complexity and sportiness to the timepiece, making this a terrific opportunity for collectors to obtain an iconic perpetual calendar wristwatch from Audemars Piguet.

Audemars Piguet

Swiss | 1881
A specialist in the manufacture of complications since it was established in 1881, Audemars Piguet never ceases to impress with a rich history of creating bold, even audacious, timepieces underpinned by traditional watchmaking at its finest. This Le Brassus-based Swiss manufacturer is one of only two major manufacturers still owned by the founding family. Since its earliest days, AP is considered a leader in the field of minute repeaters and grande complication pocket and wristwatches. The brand is devoted to preserving the history of watchmaking in the Vallée de Joux, showcased at their superb museum in Le Brassus.
Today, the brand is best known for its Royal Oak models, a revolutionary luxury sports watch launched in 1972. Other key models include early minute repeating wristwatches, vintage chronograph wristwatches, such as the oversized reference 5020, perpetual calendar watches and the Royal Oak Offshore, first introduced in 1993.
