Catalogue Essay
A new Royal Oak perpetual calendar model featuring this time a leap year indicator, reference 25820 was launched in 1996 and in production until 2013. 628 pieces in steel, 107 pieces in yellow gold, 74 pieces in platinum, 11 in pink gold, 378 in steel and platinum, 15 in tantalum and yellow gold, 9 in tantalum and platinum, and 13 in tantalum and pink gold for a total of 1235 examples.

One of the most appreciated case/dial combinations one can find in a wristwatch is arguably that of a white metal case with a salmon dial. The neutral metal of the case offers a canvas which allows for the dial to express its warm hue at its best, furthermore the note of color imparted by the salmon tonality confers to the ensemble some lightheartedness without being however extravagant to the point of diminishing the importance of the timepiece. The historical relevance of pink gold dials is also noteworthy as this particular hue has been employed on wristwatches since the early 19th century, with some of the most important timepieces ever created indeed featuring a salmon dial.

When this already hallowed match of salmon dial and white metal case finds its expression on a platinum timepiece, such as in this instance, the aesthetic power of the watch is amplified by the icy tonality of platinum and boosted by the weight of the timepiece which conveys on a physical level the importance of the object.
