1972 was a significant year that marked a critical junction for Audemars Piguet’s future at the time. With the birth of Gerald Genta’s Royal Oak ref. 5402, the brand was given a momentous legacy that is still apparent today. With nautical inspiration, this was an innovative design starring an octagonal bezel with exposed screws, built upon the portholes on a naval ship and their naked bolt welds that hold them in place. This reference quickly became a cult classic of luxury sports watches.
The present ref. 15500ST is a direct descendant of the model’s first iteration. Released in 2019, the fourth generation Royal Oak not only holds a greater wrist presence with its larger and thicker case, but it is also equipped with a new and improved automatic calibre 4302. Inheriting the model’s DNA, this wristwatch features the most desirable beautiful blue ‘Tappisserie’ background with contrasting linier hands and indexes. The marriage of its texturised dial that delicately plays with light and brush-finished exterior creates the perfect balance between sport and splendour. Now recently discontinued after a production spanning only five years, it has been replaced by the new ref. 15510ST featuring a "50th Anniversary" rotor.
Presented in ‘like-new’ condition, the Royal Oak ref. 15500ST at hand is from circa 2021, offered by the original owner and is accompanied by its full set of accessories. This sought-after and iconic gem can be dressed up or down, ideal for elevating one’s outfit for any occasion
