Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak is one of the most iconic wristwatch designs of the 20th century and a collectors’ favorite appreciated for its rugged, masculine, and sporty aesthetic. Since its introduction, the brand has produced many iterations of the Royal Oak, experimenting with different case sizes, materials, dial treatments, and complications. In celebration of the Royal Oak’s 25th anniversary, Audemars Piguet released the limited edition reference 25831 Royal Oak Tourbillon with 40mm diameter case, hidden crown on the case back and aperture at the 6 o’clock with tourbillon. The Royal Oak has always been a vehicle for exploration and Audemars Piguet introduced in 2022 an updated reference 26730 with “Flying Tourbillon” for the 50th anniversary of the Royal Oak.

The present reference 26730ST is a mainstream model retaining the DNA of the 50th anniversary example. Housing the caliber 2950, the flying tourbillon appears to float within the movement and seen through the aperture at the 6 o’clock. Unlike traditional tourbillons with a rotating cage held by bridges at the top and bottom, the flying tourbillon has the upper bridge removed and cantilevered so it is supported at a single point beneath. The watch, with its thin, 41mm diameter case, is a pure expression of the Royal Oak.

Consigned by the original owner, this stainless steel Flying Tourbillon is in like new condition and complete with warranty card and presentation box. The Royal Oak has evolved and matured since its inception in 1972 and the reference 26730ST is a superb, modern complicated example.

Audemars Piguet

Swiss | 1881

A specialist in the manufacture of complications since it was established in 1881, Audemars Piguet never ceases to impress with a rich history of creating bold, even audacious, timepieces underpinned by traditional watchmaking at its finest. This Le Brassus-based Swiss manufacturer is one of only two major manufacturers still owned by the founding family. Since its earliest days, AP is considered a leader in the field of minute repeaters and grande complication pocket and wristwatches. The brand is devoted to preserving the history of watchmaking in the Vallée de Joux, showcased at their superb museum in Le Brassus.

Today, the brand is best known for its Royal Oak models, a revolutionary luxury sports watch launched in 1972. Other key models include early minute repeating wristwatches, vintage chronograph wristwatches, such as the oversized reference 5020, perpetual calendar watches and the Royal Oak Offshore, first introduced in 1993.
