In response to the quartz crisis of the late 1960s and early 1970s, Audemars Piguet released the Royal Oak wristwatch in 1972 as the world’s first stainless steel luxury sports watch with a fully integrated bracelet. Designed by the famed horologer Gérald Genta, it was a model that revolutionized luxury watches with a monobloc case featuring an octagonal bezel secured by eight hexagonal white gold screws. In 1993, however, the Royal Oak design was 21 years old, and while it remained an unarguably timeless architecture—as demonstrated by the ever-growing interest in the model—Audemars Piguet felt the need to update it with a more rugged, sporty, and masculine version. Stephen Urquhart, then managing director of AP, tasked designer Emmanuel Gueit with the challenge. Gueit retained the Royal Oak’s classic design but enlarged the original 39 mm case to 42 mm: the Offshore was born.

Launched in 2011, the present Royal Oak Offshore was created as a limited edition for Marcus Watches, the fabled and storied luxury watch and jewelry boutique in London. Attractive and eye-catching, this red-accented Royal Oak Offshore is like no other. Cased in pink gold and featuring Audemars Piguet's signature octagonal bezel, the watch is accented by striking red pushers and crown. At its center lies a black “Méga Tapisserie” dial, highlighted with luminous hands, red Arabic numerals, and a red tachymeter scale. The case back is engraved with the Marcus M logo. It is incredibly rare for Audemars Piguet to undertake collaborations of any kind, and this partnership underscores the significance of Marcus Watches as a retail partner in the eyes of the brand.

Audemars Piguet

Swiss | 1881

A specialist in the manufacture of complications since it was established in 1881, Audemars Piguet never ceases to impress with a rich history of creating bold, even audacious, timepieces underpinned by traditional watchmaking at its finest. This Le Brassus-based Swiss manufacturer is one of only two major manufacturers still owned by the founding family. Since its earliest days, AP is considered a leader in the field of minute repeaters and grande complication pocket and wristwatches. The brand is devoted to preserving the history of watchmaking in the Vallée de Joux, showcased at their superb museum in Le Brassus.

Today, the brand is best known for its Royal Oak models, a revolutionary luxury sports watch launched in 1972. Other key models include early minute repeating wristwatches, vintage chronograph wristwatches, such as the oversized reference 5020, perpetual calendar watches and the Royal Oak Offshore, first introduced in 1993.
