Catalogue Essay
- The Breguet Type 20 remains one of the most revered aviation chronographs of the mid-20th century, its prolific history intrinsically tied to the conquest of the skies. First introduced in the 1950s for the French naval air force, the Type 20 has endured as a flagship Breguet model.

- In 1994, the first modern iteration launched as ref. 3800 - saluting the original Type 20 Aéronavale designs that equipped the pioneering pilots and navigators. Powered by a self-winding cal. 582 based on the Lemania cal. 1350, it featured the iconic 39mm case size along with a crucial flyback function tailored for aerial timing duties.

- This first generation Type XX ref. 3800 bore the hallmarks of its ancestry, including the gold-tipped crown that harkened back to earlier military-issued models. Strictly limited in number, examples from this inaugural modern Type XX are highly coveted by collectors who appreciate Breguet's significant contributions to aviation timekeeping.

- The present well-preserved example belongs to this rare first generation Type XX Aéronavale. Complete with its full set of accessories, it represents an important milestone in Breguet's enduring legacy with the skies.

Breguet

Swiss | 1775
Established in 1775 by Abraham Louis Breguet, widely considered the greatest watchmaker of all time, the storied brand continues to thrive in the modern era, creating exceptional high-end watches as the Swatch Group's premier prestige brand. Some of the most important and lasting inventions in watchmaking are attributed to Abraham Louis Breguet, including the tourbillon, shock resistance and the use of hammers and gongs employed in nearly all minute repeating watches made since.

Eighteenth and nineteenth century Breguet pocketwatches are especially sought-after by collectors, and many of them were made for the elite of European society, including Napoléon and Marie Antoinette. Key wristwatches from the twentieth century include oversized dress watches, two-register chronographs, triple calendars and Type XX aviator's chronographs made for the French military and civilians.
