Breguet
Ref. 3755BA/0E/2VU
A well-preserved and rare yellow gold skeletonized perpetual calendar tourbillon wristwatch with retrograde date, leap year indication, certificate and presentation box
Full-Cataloguing
This example is presented in a 40mm yellow gold case with Breguet’s signature fluted caseband and polished bezel. The skeletonised dial reveals the hand-engraved manually-wound movement. It features a one-minute tourbillon at 6 o’clock, off-centred time display with retrograde date at 12, and leap year indications at 3 o'clock.
The movement is a visual spectacle: bridges and plates are meticulously skeletonised and engraved, with sharp inner and outer corners finished entirely by hand, which is regarded as a hallmark of high-end watchmaking. Particularly striking is the skeletonised barrel and ratchet wheel, shaped like delicate ‘dragonfly legs’, visible from both the front and back.
This level of finishing demands exceptional skill and time, significantly enhancing both the value and collectability of the watch. Accompanied with its certificate and accessories, this beautiful well-preserved reference offered for the first time at Phillips is a testament to Breguet’s enduring influence on haute horlogerie.
Breguet
Swiss | 1775Established in 1775 by Abraham Louis Breguet, widely considered the greatest watchmaker of all time, the storied brand continues to thrive in the modern era, creating exceptional high-end watches as the Swatch Group's premier prestige brand. Some of the most important and lasting inventions in watchmaking are attributed to Abraham Louis Breguet, including the tourbillon, shock resistance and the use of hammers and gongs employed in nearly all minute repeating watches made since.
Eighteenth and nineteenth century Breguet pocketwatches are especially sought-after by collectors, and many of them were made for the elite of European society, including Napoléon and Marie Antoinette. Key wristwatches from the twentieth century include oversized dress watches, two-register chronographs, triple calendars and Type XX aviator's chronographs made for the French military and civilians.
