Catalogue Essay
The Bulgari Octo Finissimo Miyajima Tatsuo Japan limited series was launched last year, on Christmas Day, featuring two ultra-thin three-handed watches along with a minute repeater wristwatch. As a part of the successful collaboration between the luxury house and the Asian contemporary artist, the present timepiece boasts a clean and simple design with the number “8”, representing the artisan’s creative approach to "sustainability and eternity".

Miyajima Tatsuo is a Japanese-born sculptor and installation artist, coveted for his conceptions of time and space through digital LED counters. Playing on the idea of "constant change, the connection of all things, and eternity", he began to explore the cycle of life and death and time through numbers in the 1980s.

The present Octo Finissimo Miyajima Tatsuo is a three-hand watch with small seconds. Encased in black ceramic, the timepiece sits comfortably on its wrist thanks to its incredibly thin 5.5mm profile and featherlight state-of-the-art ceramic bracelet. The LED digital font "8" is printed in the center of the dial, which also echoes the classic octagonal case of Octo Finissimo. Powered by a BVL138 self-winding ultra-thin movement, it is equipped with a swing frequency of 21600vph and a power reserve of 60 hours.

Offered in “like-new” condition with its original accessories, the present Octo Finissimo is sleek, suave and agile, ideal for both formal occasions or even a competitive game on the courts.

Bulgari

Italian
Originally from Kalarites, Greece, Sotirios Voulgaris emigrated to Rome because of Greece's rising poverty and difficulty separating from the Ottoman Empire. He set foot on Italian soil in 1880 with little money in his pocket and spent the next four years preparing what would go on to become Italy's oldest jewelry company. In 1884, Bulgari opened its doors to the Italian people with its offering of jewelry and accessories. Bulgari's style takes from traditions in Greek and Roman craftsmanship to elegantly balance volume and subtlety. Later, in the late 1960s, Bulgari bridged classicism and modernity by introducing its seductive, now-iconic Serpenti collection of snake-shaped coil bracelets and watches. It is through its meticulous combination of influences that Bulgari has garnered an international and loyal high-profile clientele, which included Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn. These Hollywood stars have immortalized the house's unique gem-adorned bracelets, necklaces and earrings in rounded forms.
