The Tank watch remains Cartier's most enduring and recognizable icon, encapsulating the maison's enduring blend of bold style and refined elegance. This platinum example is a special order ref. 2915 Tank Louis Cartier XL that pays tribute to Louis Cartier’s original 1922 design while bringing a modern edge through subtle yet impactful details.
Crafted as part of Cartier's esteemed Collection Privée Cartier Paris line produced between 1998-2008, the Tank XL was only produced between 2006–2008 with approximately only 100 pieces in pink gold and 50 pieces in platinum. Its enlarged case updates the proportions for contemporary wrists while still preserving the Tank's graphic rectangular shape and smooth, sweeping lines. The ultra-sleek platinum case gleams around a rich silvered guilloché dial, accented by vivid midnight blue hands echoing the sapphire cabochon of the crown. Details like the silver rose in the center of the dial and “Cartier Paris” signature are part of the CPCP collection.
What makes the present example special is the blue Roman numerals, railway and text on the dial as opposed to the traditional black on regular production models. Made as a special order with case number 1, the present Tank XL showcases Cartier's enduring heritage of elegance and exclusivity. It is a contemporary collectible vision of Louis Cartier’s timeless design, made new again for the modern era.

Cartier
FrenchWith the Constitution of 1848 came a new standard for luxury in France. Founded one year prior by Louis-Francois Cartier, the house of Cartier was one of the first to use platinum in jewelry making. This incredibly expensive material became the stepping-stone for Cartier to experiment in form, mechanisms and attitude. It helped men move from pocket watches to wristwatches, effectively making the watch much more functional and prominent in a man's overall wardrobe.Cartier did not only touch on functionality. Inspired by a commissioned painting by George Barbier featuring a black panther at the feet of an elegantly bejeweled woman, Cartier began incorporating wild animals in his designs—most notably, Cartier Panthère rings, bangle bracelets and watches. Yet it wasn't until the late 1960s that the house of Cartier debuted their iconic yellow and rose gold LOVE collection, which includes the famous bracelet that only a special screwdriver can open.
