Catalogue Essay
The present example, encased in platinum and numbered 36 of just 55 pieces, celebrates the historic relationship between the French jeweler and the Thai royal court. This connection began in 1907, when Cartier received the royal warrant of appointment from the House of Chakri during the reign of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), coinciding with a royal visit to the Cartier flagship boutique at 13 rue de la Paix, Paris.

With 115 years of history linking Cartier and Thailand in 2022, this dial is uniquely fitted with Thai numerals, featuring the “5” written in Thai instead of the traditional hour marker. The caseback also written “Siam” in Thai, further emphasizing the significance of this special edition.

Additionally, the watch is accompanied by an exclusive collector’s box, illustrating a panther against the backdrop of Thai temples, with the case number “36” prominently displayed. Preserved in like-new condition, this Asymétrique marks the reference’s auction debut and is sure to delight even the most discerning Cartier collector.

Cartier

French
With the Constitution of 1848 came a new standard for luxury in France. Founded one year prior by Louis-Francois Cartier, the house of Cartier was one of the first to use platinum in jewelry making. This incredibly expensive material became the stepping-stone for Cartier to experiment in form, mechanisms and attitude. It helped men move from pocket watches to wristwatches, effectively making the watch much more functional and prominent in a man's overall wardrobe.Cartier did not only touch on functionality. Inspired by a commissioned painting by George Barbier featuring a black panther at the feet of an elegantly bejeweled woman, Cartier began incorporating wild animals in his designs—most notably, Cartier Panthère rings, bangle bracelets and watches. Yet it wasn't until the late 1960s that the house of Cartier debuted their iconic yellow and rose gold LOVE collection, which includes the famous bracelet that only a special screwdriver can open.
