Catalogue Essay
In 2021, Cartier marked the 100th anniversary of the Tank Cintrée with a limited edition in gold. Continuing this celebration, the Maison introduced a new platinum edition in 2023. While this release is not a direct reissue, it takes inspiration from its heritage, seamlessly combining timeless design with contemporary refinement. The Tank Cintrée, renowned for its large, curved case, stands out as one of the boldest and most elegant of the Tank models, making it a perfect fit even for modern tastes.

The platinum case measures 46mm by 23mm and is now slightly slimmer at just 6mm. Staying true to vintage Cintrée models, the long polished brancards contrast beautifully with the brushed horizontal sides, while a ruby cabochon crown adds a touch of luxury. The watch is powered by the ultra-thin Cartier caliber 9780 MC, which is based on the Jaeger-LeCoultre 849, measuring only 1.85mm in thickness, perfectly complementing the sleek case.

As part of Cartier’s "Les Rééditions" program, which reintroduces beloved models in limited editions, this platinum Cintrée features an off-white eggshell dial adorned with Roman numerals and a rail track. The Breguet-style hands, on the other hand, further enhance the overall aesthetic.

The Tank Cintrée is highly sought after within the Tank family due to its rarity and elegant shape, with platinum editions being particularly valued. This example is in like-new condition, offering a rare chance to acquire this now sold-out masterpiece.

Cartier

French
With the Constitution of 1848 came a new standard for luxury in France. Founded one year prior by Louis-Francois Cartier, the house of Cartier was one of the first to use platinum in jewelry making. This incredibly expensive material became the stepping-stone for Cartier to experiment in form, mechanisms and attitude. It helped men move from pocket watches to wristwatches, effectively making the watch much more functional and prominent in a man's overall wardrobe.Cartier did not only touch on functionality. Inspired by a commissioned painting by George Barbier featuring a black panther at the feet of an elegantly bejeweled woman, Cartier began incorporating wild animals in his designs—most notably, Cartier Panthère rings, bangle bracelets and watches. Yet it wasn't until the late 1960s that the house of Cartier debuted their iconic yellow and rose gold LOVE collection, which includes the famous bracelet that only a special screwdriver can open.
