GOOD TO KNOW:
- Auction debut for the new Tank à Guichet
- Faithful revival of the 1928 original – the crown is at 12 o’clock and integral brancards return for the most authentic reinterpretation in decades
- "Brand-new" unworn condition with full set of accessories

First introduced in 1928, the Cartier Tank à Guichet emerged at the height of the Art Deco movement, when geometry and precision defined the aesthetic of the age. Its name derives from the French for "aperture", a fitting description for a watch that dispensed with traditional hands in favour of jumping hours displayed at the upper portion of the dial and a minutes indicator at 6 o'clock. These "jump hour" mechanisms were a specialty of the period, prized for their mechanical ingenuity and distinctly modern visual language.

Whilst Cartier has produced intervening versions, the new 2025 Cartier Tank à Guichet revived the original icon with remarkable faithfulness. The new Tank à Guichet returns to the original 1928 blueprint in two crucial respects: the crown has been relocated to the 12 o'clock position, and the brancards (the vertical case rails) are once again an integral part of the case, restored without the separating bevel that appeared on intervening versions. These details may seem subtle, but for connoisseurs of the Tank lineage, they represent the difference between a mere homage and an authentic resurrection.

Phillips is pleased to offer this pink gold Tank à Guichet in “brand-new” unworn condition, with full set, including accessories – marking an auction debut for the new Tank à Guichet.

Cartier

French

With the Constitution of 1848 came a new standard for luxury in France. Founded one year prior by Louis-Francois Cartier, the house of Cartier was one of the first to use platinum in jewelry making. This incredibly expensive material became the stepping-stone for Cartier to experiment in form, mechanisms and attitude. It helped men move from pocket watches to wristwatches, effectively making the watch much more functional and prominent in a man's overall wardrobe.

Cartier did not only touch on functionality. Inspired by a commissioned painting by George Barbier featuring a black panther at the feet of an elegantly bejeweled woman, Cartier began incorporating wild animals in his designs—most notably, Cartier Panthère rings, bangle bracelets and watches. Yet it wasn't until the late 1960s that the house of Cartier debuted their iconic yellow and rose gold LOVE collection, which includes the famous bracelet that only a special screwdriver can open.
