Regulator dials are one of the most technical dial layouts in watchmaking. Originally employed on clocks in watch manufacturers, the hours are removed from the center to a subsidiary dial at 12 so that they would not obscure for prolonged times the running seconds at 6, which had to be as unobstructed as possible so that watchmakers could synchronize the timepieces they were working on.
