Catalogue Essay
Introduced in 2014, the F.P. Journe Élégante immediately became the hot topic of the industry as it featured a newly innovated and patented electro mechanical movement becoming the world’s very first timepiece to incorporate such feature. Taking over 8 years to develop the caliber, the movement comprises of a motion detector enabling the timepiece to hibernate once unworn for half an hour. Once the watch is placed on the wrist after inactivity, the motion detector via a small oscillating weight positioned at 4 O’clock generates power to the mechanism to enable an automatic readjustment of the hands to the correct time.

With a distinctive and iconic sporty tortue-shaped case in titanium with Titalyt® coating and two rows of diamonds set on the bevel of the bezel, the Élégante 40 is with no doubt a classy, elegant and practical timepiece perfect for daily wear. Initially released for ladies, the firm released the men’s model in 2016.

The present example F.P. Journe Élégante 40 ELT is preserved in excellent “like new” overall condition and is further accompanied by its full set of accessories.

F.P. Journe

Swiss | 1999
Founded by watchmaker François-Paul Journe in 1999, the F.P. Journe brand is relatively young, but already is as highly regarded by collectors as many distinguished manufacturers with centuries-old heritage. In the minds of the world's savviest collectors, Journe is producing some of the finest wristwatches the market has ever seen. Mastering his craft from restoring historical timepieces, he was the first to create a wristwatch incorporating two escapements that benefit from the phenomenon of resonance — the Chronomètre à Résonance.

Key models include the Résonance, tourbillon wristwatches incorporating a remontoir and the limited edition Vagabondage series. Especially sought-after are his earliest "souscription" watches, made in 1999.
