Catalogue Essay
Awarded the Best Men’s watch prize at the Geneva Grand Prix D’horlogerie in 2005, the model was available in pink gold and platinum with the choice to be paired with a strap or matching metal bracelet. And was one if Journe’s most recognizable central time display model in his collection.

Fitted with an elegant silver dial decorared with Hobnail guilloche in the center, it is notable that early generation of the model features smaller guilloche compared to later productions of the model. Born in 2006, the present timepiece is part of the early production of the Chronomètre Souverain. Powered by the caliber 1304 in pink gold, the timepiece provides a power reserve of 56 hours, indicated by the intriguing 0-56 power reserve indication at 3 o’clock. Inspired from naval chronometer clocks, the indication moves in opposite direction when fully wound towards 0. Contrasted with a set of blued-steel hands, reading the passage of time is incredibly clear by a glance on the wrist. Slim in proportion at only 8mm thick, the Chronomètre Souverain is a joy to wear. Offered by the original owner and accompanied with the original accessories, it is notable that this is the same reference that Francois Paul Journe famously presented to George Daniels in 2010, while that example is bespoke with a personalized engraving on the movement. Truly timeless and refined, the present Chronomètre Souverain is a perfect timepiece for the purist of Journe timepieces.

F.P. Journe

Swiss | 1999
Founded by watchmaker François-Paul Journe in 1999, the F.P. Journe brand is relatively young, but already is as highly regarded by collectors as many distinguished manufacturers with centuries-old heritage. In the minds of the world's savviest collectors, Journe is producing some of the finest wristwatches the market has ever seen. Mastering his craft from restoring historical timepieces, he was the first to create a wristwatch incorporating two escapements that benefit from the phenomenon of resonance — the Chronomètre à Résonance.

Key models include the Résonance, tourbillon wristwatches incorporating a remontoir and the limited edition Vagabondage series. Especially sought-after are his earliest "souscription" watches, made in 1999.
