Catalogue Essay
Launched in 2001, the F.P. Journe Octa collection consists of a series of automatic chronometer wristwatches featuring a formidable 120-hour power reserve, and housing different complications from chronographs, moonphases to perpetual calendars, realizing the horological ideal of equipping watches with the highest level of precision and autonomy.
Joining the family in 2011, the Octa UTC takes a twist on the dual time function and features UTC (Universal Coordinated Time). While the traditional GMT is based on terrestrial rotation, the UTC relies on atomic international time. The Octa UTC is a patented system that utilizes the modern standards of universal reference time to determine time zones in full hours, and it indicates the different time periods linked with the earth’s geographical positions, displaying summer and winter hours.
On the dial, the local hours are displayed by the blue hands on the main subsidiary dial, and the second time-zone is elegantly displayed on the same sub-dial with a gold hand and matching 24-hour time scale. Beneath the large date and 120-hour power reserve indicator, the beautiful time zone map of the dial further tracks the location of reference time. The purpose of the +1/ -1 indicator is to change the specific region for summer or winter time which is linked to the geographical location of the user.
The present early Octa UTC example numbered 005 from circa 2011 is offered in excellent condition, and is accompanied by its complete set of accessories.

F.P. Journe
Swiss | 1999Founded by watchmaker François-Paul Journe in 1999, the F.P. Journe brand is relatively young, but already is as highly regarded by collectors as many distinguished manufacturers with centuries-old heritage. In the minds of the world's savviest collectors, Journe is producing some of the finest wristwatches the market has ever seen. Mastering his craft from restoring historical timepieces, he was the first to create a wristwatch incorporating two escapements that benefit from the phenomenon of resonance — the Chronomètre à Résonance.
Key models include the Résonance, tourbillon wristwatches incorporating a remontoir and the limited edition Vagabondage series. Especially sought-after are his earliest "souscription" watches, made in 1999.
