Catalogue Essay
Launched in the beginning of François-Paul Journe’s career, the Octa Chronographe is one of the manufacture's rarest models. At the time of launch in 2001, it was the very first chronograph wristwatch with automatic movement to feature a large date display and a flyback chronograph with an impressive 120-hour power reserve (a world record for a wristwatch at the time).
The model was also the first F.P. Journe model to be discontinued, when it was replaced by the Centigraphe Souverain chronograph in 2007. Produced in two series, the first with the cal. 1300 with brass movement, and the second as seen on the present model, cal. 1300.2 with 18K pink gold movement, is a wonderful, modern interpretation of the chronograph. The asymmetrical dial, with large time indication to the right side of the dial, is offset by the smaller 60-minute dial to the left side.
In stunning overall condition, the present example comes complete with its original certificate and presentation box. An extremely rare configuration with its 38mm pink gold case, pink gold movement, and mesmerizing pink gold dial, just 18 examples were produced according to scholarship, the present being the 4th example to appear in the auction market publicly. Over the past few years, demand for F.P. Journe’s timepieces has grown as more collectors recognize the importance of the brand’s exceptional watchmaking. The present Octa Chronographe is an arresting example of a rare and discontinued model, presenting an outstanding opportunity for the connoisseur.

F.P. Journe
Swiss | 1999Founded by watchmaker François-Paul Journe in 1999, the F.P. Journe brand is relatively young, but already is as highly regarded by collectors as many distinguished manufacturers with centuries-old heritage. In the minds of the world's savviest collectors, Journe is producing some of the finest wristwatches the market has ever seen. Mastering his craft from restoring historical timepieces, he was the first to create a wristwatch incorporating two escapements that benefit from the phenomenon of resonance — the Chronomètre à Résonance.
Key models include the Résonance, tourbillon wristwatches incorporating a remontoir and the limited edition Vagabondage series. Especially sought-after are his earliest "souscription" watches, made in 1999.
