GOOD TO KNOW
• Boutique edition with mother-of-pearl dial
• Only 8 examples known to have been produced between 2008-2017
In 2007, Journe released the “Automatique Lune,” combining the layout of the Automatique Réserve and the Octa Lune, and featuring a new dial layout with the hour and minute position moved to the traditional horological display format at the outer rim of the dial. The new model offered a classic, clean, easy-to-read display, and while the moon-phase and large date apertures remained the same, the Arabic hour numerals were newly prominent at the periphery of the dial.
A year later, Journe introduced the “Nacre” or mother-of-pearl edition of the Automatique Lune, available only in the brand’s boutiques on an application basis. Available in platinum or pink gold paired with a lustrous mother-of-pearl, it is believed that only eight pieces in the latter configuration were delivered during the model’s production era. The warmth of the pink gold case and inner clous-de-Paris contrast with the iridescence of the mother-of-pearl outer dial, bringing out the pink and orange tones within.
The first iteration of the Octa Automatique Lune with “Nacre” dial was available between 2008 and 2017. It was reintroduced in 2021 as the AL2 and only available in 40mm or 42mm, whereas the AL was available in 38mm and 40mm. The boutique “Nacre” was only made available on the following models: the Chronomètre Souverain, the Octa Automatique Lune and the Octa Automatique Réserve. The present watch is only the second ever of this model and iteration to appear at auction.

F.P. Journe
Swiss | 1999Founded by watchmaker François-Paul Journe in 1999, the F.P. Journe brand is relatively young, but already is as highly regarded by collectors as many distinguished manufacturers with centuries-old heritage. In the minds of the world's savviest collectors, Journe is producing some of the finest wristwatches the market has ever seen. Mastering his craft from restoring historical timepieces, he was the first to create a wristwatch incorporating two escapements that benefit from the phenomenon of resonance — the Chronomètre à Résonance.
Key models include the Résonance, tourbillon wristwatches incorporating a remontoir and the limited edition Vagabondage series. Especially sought-after are his earliest "souscription" watches, made in 1999.
