GOOD TO KNOW
• One of only 7 pieces made in 40mm, platinum case, white gold dial dating to 2006
• Originally purchased at renowned Italian F.P. Journe retailer Orologeria Pisa
• Full-set and excellent condition
At its launch in 2001, the Octa Chronographe was the very first chronograph wristwatch with automatic movement to feature a large date display and a flyback chronograph with an impressive 120-hour power reserve. The model was also the first F.P. Journe model to be discontinued, when it was replaced by the Centigraphe Souverain chronograph in 2007.
The present Octa Chronographe in platinum with a 40mm diameter case, white gold dial, and solid gold 1300.2 automatic movement, is deceptively rare. Of the 313 Octa Chronographes ever produced, 100 are from the Ruthenium series, 135 have the brass caliber 1300, and 78 are fitted with the gold caliber 1300.2 or 1300.3. Thus, firstly we can deduce that the solid gold movement Octa Chronographes are the rarest. Of the 78 gold movements, only 17 were cased in 40mm: 2 in pink gold (1 in 38mm and 1 in 40mm), 8 pieces in platinum for Swiss Fine Timing with red and black dials, and the remaining 7 in platinum with white gold dials – such as the present watch. Only two other examples in this configuration are known to have ever appeared at auction, in 2008 and 2010 respectively.
Adding to its notoriety, it was purchased at esteemed Italian F.P. Journe retailer Orologeria Pisa, one of the few independent retailers to be blessed with their very own limited edition series, and is accompanied by its original accessories, in excellent overall condition.

F.P. Journe
Swiss | 1999Founded by watchmaker François-Paul Journe in 1999, the F.P. Journe brand is relatively young, but already is as highly regarded by collectors as many distinguished manufacturers with centuries-old heritage. In the minds of the world's savviest collectors, Journe is producing some of the finest wristwatches the market has ever seen. Mastering his craft from restoring historical timepieces, he was the first to create a wristwatch incorporating two escapements that benefit from the phenomenon of resonance — the Chronomètre à Résonance.
Key models include the Résonance, tourbillon wristwatches incorporating a remontoir and the limited edition Vagabondage series. Especially sought-after are his earliest "souscription" watches, made in 1999.
