Catalogue Essay
The Chronomètre à Resonance was a phenomenon first introduced in 1999 and was the second serially produced model by François-Paul Journe. An emblematic timepiece that revolutionized the classic standard of watchmaking by offering mechanical exception with its twin balances beating in perfect synchronisation for a wristwatch.

Inspired by the work of the great 18th century watchmaker Antide Janvier, Journe rose to the challenge in 1983 and created a pocket-watch using the resonance phenomenon and launched a wristwatch, and the rest is history.

As part of the third series of this legacy and an new facelift for the model’s tenth anniversary, the Chronomètre à Résonance RT (Résonance Trois) were produced in 2010 until 2019 and was also took home the Best Complication Watch Prize in 2010 at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie (GPHG). Distinctly recognizable with its 24-hour disc display, the timepiece is aptly dubbed the “parking meter” for its unique look.

Housed in a 40mm platinum case, this Chronomètre à Résonance RT features a white gold dial with an understated aesthetic, cleverly using a touch of red highlighting the minutes on a separate disc, the watch is highly legible. Powered by the manual-winding calibre 1499.3 in pink gold with symmetrical satisfaction, it is beautifully decorated with Côtes de Genève.

Presented in excellent overall condition and complete with its accessories, the present RT example from circa 2013 with oddly satisfying steampunk charm makes this a must have for your Journe collection.

F.P. Journe

Swiss | 1999
Founded by watchmaker François-Paul Journe in 1999, the F.P. Journe brand is relatively young, but already is as highly regarded by collectors as many distinguished manufacturers with centuries-old heritage. In the minds of the world's savviest collectors, Journe is producing some of the finest wristwatches the market has ever seen. Mastering his craft from restoring historical timepieces, he was the first to create a wristwatch incorporating two escapements that benefit from the phenomenon of resonance — the Chronomètre à Résonance.

Key models include the Résonance, tourbillon wristwatches incorporating a remontoir and the limited edition Vagabondage series. Especially sought-after are his earliest "souscription" watches, made in 1999.
