Catalogue Essay
Now a multi-time Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) award winner, Habring2 was founded by the husband-and-wife team of Richard and Maria Habring. Richard is best known for having worked at IWC in the 1990s, where he invented the condensed rattrapante mechanism and compact flying tourbillon that are both still being produced by IWC.
In 2021, the brand collaborated with journalist and collector extraordinaire, SJX, to create a model the modern market has not seen before: The Erwin Star. With no surprise, the stunning star made in a limited edition of 50 pieces was sold out minutes after its launch.
A passion project between SJX and Habring2 paying tribute to the horological greats of the 1950s, the Erwin Star most notably pays hommage to the Rolex reference 6088 "Galaxy". Designed with recognisable details with a contemporary twist, its rich blue dial contrast beautifully against the applied gold star-set numerals. Made of gilded brass, each star hour marker is stamped, diamond cut and finally gently polished, giving them a reflective facetted surface. Housed under the dial is the calibre A11s developed by Harbring2 based from the Valjoux 7750. Beautifully finished with large perlages and decorated with blued steel screws, the movement features a dead beat seconds complication. Cased in a 38.5mm stainless steel and preserved in excellent condition accompanied by all its original accessories, the present Erwin Star is numbered 36 from its edition of 50 pieces.
