The XXL Dome Hanging Lamp was designed by Ingo Maurer in Germany. The XXL Dome Hanging Lamp is perhaps the most impressive of Ingo Maurer's lamps.
Alongside the production of lighting, Maurer creates installations – which are considered almost artistic performances – for exhibitions, cultural events, underground stations, theatres and even shopping centres.
These become opportunities to experiment with the lights in settings which go beyond domestic scale, moving towards urban dimensions. Very often, these projects lead to the design of new lights, which are then put into production. This was the case, with the “XXL Dome” (1999), which was originally born out of a study of the Munich underground subway system. “A good designer needs to have a lot of passion. It’s like going on a little trip, with ups and downs, and meeting a lot of people, from technicians to photographers, along the way.” – Ingo Maurer.
