The IWC Portugieser model was first launched by the firm in the early 1930’s from the request of two Portuguese businessmen who when visited IWC’s headquarters in Schaffhausen for a stainless steel wristwatch that could match the precision of a marine chronometer. Since its original model, the Portugieser has become one of the firm’s most iconic timepieces that still remains in production till date and have since enjoyed various complications featured inside the iconic 43mm diameter case.
In 2015, IWC launched the Portugieser Annual Calendar with a 7-day power reserve indication referenced 5035. Still retaining its iconic 43mm diameter case, the practicality of the annual calendar merged with the superb and clear legibility of the dial is perhaps what makes the Portugieser Annual Calendar stealthily attractive. In 2016, IWC released a series of limited edition timepieces to celebrate the Tribecca Film Festival. The limited edition timepieces all shared a common trait of bearing a grey sunburst dial with crimson red registers.
