The IWC Portugieser is one of the firm’s most celebrated and iconic models with its heritage dating back to the late 1930’s during the rise of the wristwatch. As a special request from two Portuguese businessmen seeking for a timepiece with the precision of marine chronometers to be worn on the wrist. The result was a large stainless steel watch equipped with a pocket watch movement fitted with the calibre 74.

Since its debut in 1998, the reference 3714 has become an instantaneously recognizable icon and one of the best-selling model from the firm. Inside beats an automatic movement Cal. 79240, at a frequency of 28800 bph (4 Hz) to provide a 44-hour power reserve when fully wound. The present example with an attractive black dial is paired with two silver vertical sub-register boosting with elegance and is no doubt the perfect companion for any black tie event.
