Batman Forever starring Val Kilmer as the masked vigilante, to many diehard comic fans, is one of the most iconic portrayals of the DC superhero in live action adaptations. In 1995, Jaeger-LeCoultre released the Reverso Grande Taille “Batman Forever” alongside the film in a limited number of 5 pieces in 18K yellow gold and 30 pieces in stainless steel. The total 35 pieces of the watches were not for sale, and were only used for movie promotions, fund raising auctions and charity events, in which the whereabouts of most of the watches are still unknown.
While some of the pieces were given to the actor or related personnels of the film or promotion events, the present “Batman Forever” is numbered 10 out of the 30 pieces in stainless steel, and is one of the traceable ones that were originally distributed in the United States. The watch was featured in the 1998 Carousel of Hope Ball Silent Auction to raise funds for the Children’s Diabetes Foundation to help diabetes research and related care.
The present watch is a customized pieces by Jaeger-LeCoultre based on the Reverso Grande Taille, which was a model released in 1991 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the creation of the Reverso. Being one of the most iconic series of the manufacturer, it is the perfect watch for matching DC Comic’s famed billionaire and superhero. According to our research, this is the 2nd example to be available publicly at auction. Numbered 10, it is also the earliest number known making this a highly rare collector's item.
Whether you are a DC Comics fan, Batman memorabilia collector or Jaeger-LeCoultre enthusiast, this numbered limited edition “Batman Forever” watch is surely a piece not to be missed.
Jaeger-LeCoultre
Swiss | 1833Not all companies in the watchmaking field have been able to stand the test of time quite like Jaeger LeCoultre, also known as the "watchmaker's watchmaker." Founded in 1833 by Antoine LeCoultre and originally named LeCoutre, the firm provided watchmaking's top brands, such as Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet, the high-grade, unfinished mechanical movements with which they completed their watches.
In the early 1900s, Cartier's watch supplier Edmond Jaeger sought out LeCoultre's help in creating the world's thinnest watches. The collaboration resulted in the creation of Cartier's earliest Tank and Santos watches, all housed with LeCoultre movements. The duo decided to merge in 1937, and the firm officially became the Jaeger-LeCoultre brand by which collectors know and adore it today. Some of the firm's most significant and important timepieces include the Reverso, the Memovox, the Atmos clock and, among modern watches, their Master Complications.
