Catalogue Essay
The reference 6592 is so representative of Longines’ savoir-faire that this exact timepiece, bearing movement number 14’262’250 is prominently featured on pages 272-273 of John Goldberger’s book dedicated to Longines Watches.

The delicate curves of the case, the graceful lugs, the impeccable silver dial devoid of any scales and its large luminous Arabic numerals make the present Longines chronograph a superb example of a minimalist yet powerful design.

The famous French author and aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupery once wrote that “perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away” and in this sense the present timepiece has achieved a certain perfection in design.

However, this reference 6592-6 is not just a pretty face, but houses one of the 20th century’s most iconic chronograph movements, the 30CH. A follow up of another legendary Longines caliber the 13ZN, the 30CH first appeared in the mid-1940s and like its younger sibling is also a flyback.

The movement correctly features the LXW engraving meaning the watch was destined for the American market as confirmed by the Longines Certificate of Origin and Authenticity indicating the watch was sold in 1968 to Longines-Wittnauer (Longines agent for the USA).

Offered in spectacular condition, the present reference 6592-6 is a must have for any serious collector of vintage chronographs.

Longines

Swiss | 1832
Auguste Agassiz founded Longines in 1832, and today is considered to be a pioneer in the evolution of the chronograph. During the 1930s, Longines' chronograph wristwatches were used as tools for wartime aviators and military personnel. As one of Switzerland's largest manufacturers, Longines was an important supplier of wristwatches to militaries of multiple nations.

Today, they are owned by the Swatch Group and produce wristwatches for both men and women. Their vintage wristwatches continue to grow in desirability amongst collectors. Some of the most sought-after models include such oversized chronographs as the Lindbergh Hour Angle designed by Charles Lindbergh, Chronostop, Tre Tacche, A-7, Tasti a Spillo and Doppia Lanchetta.
