Lush Life is a celebration of the beauty and diversity of Filipino culture, combining bright acrylic paint, handwoven indigenous Philippine fabrics and an intricate hand-carved frame. Melissa Yeung-Yap blends age-old traditional craft with contemporary skills by employing traditional fabrics such as Yakan Tennun, T’boli T'nalak, Manobo weave, and Maranao Balud weave. She also aims to empower the female artisans who created them, stressing the role of these women in the Philippines’ rich cultural heritage. In this sense, Lush Life is the product of not just one female artist, but many.
Yeung-Yap is an artist who is committed to exploring the cultural splendour and variety of the Philippines through her mixed media art.
