Catalogue Essay
There are seven known early examples of Thonet chair model no. 14 in laminated beechwood, as opposed to the much larger production of steamed bentwood chairs. The present lot is to be considered unique, as it is the only version from the seven executed in a rosewood finish. Three of the seven examples are in the permanent collections of The Museum of Modern Art, New York; The Bruno Bischofberger Collection; and Die Neue Sammlung, Munich.
