Catalogue Essay
- Kuala Lumpur-based micro-brand, Ming is an innovative representative of contemporary high horology. Combining high-end Swiss watchmaking and clean aesthetics, its classical case with a modern twist has become an instant hit among collectors.

- Released in 2021, the Ming 37.05 "Moon-phase" marks MING’s minimalist and avant-garde attempt of combining a date with moon phase function rendering, the timepiece extremely functional with an homage to horology.

- The integration of the functions on the dial is second to none. Divided in two layers, the lower one is a textured metal, in a midnight blue-to-black gradient, with an upper transparent sapphire dial above that showcases the hour indexes and hour index ring, both covered in HyCeram (a ceramic composite with luminous material)

- The movement in the case is a Sellita SW288. Highly modified by Schwartz-Etienne, the movement is skeletonized, matte-blasted, and anthracite-plated, with contrasting rhodium accents. Cased at 38mm in diameter, the watch sits extremely comfortable on the wrist and its minimalist attire makes it extremely legible.

- Coming with its full set of accessories and in "like-new" condition, the present timepiece is a fantastic opportunity to acquire an avant-garde looking and exceptional Ming design.

Ming

Malaysian | 1986
Ming Thein is the vision behind MING: he has a diverse background that bridges both the creative and corporate, with more than 10 years in strategy and finance and 20 years as a photographer, with seven as a full time professional. Ming was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1986, educated in Australia, New Zealand, and finally graduated with a masters’ degree in theoretical physics from Balliol College, Oxford at the age of 16.

Somewhere during the mechanical portions of his degree, he contracted the watch bug made worse by a Lange 1815 graduation gift from his parents. It would follow through his early career at KPMG and The Boston Consulting Group, where the generosity of online collector communities allowed him access to their events and watches. His contributions to the community were driven by knowledge (including numerous attempts at movement design) and photography: capturing a personal interpretation of a watch, Ming in a way made them his own and shared a different vision with the collector’s community
