Catalogue Essay
Naoya Hida has attracted immediate attention worldwide shortly after he established his own eponymous brand in 2018. Inspired by vintage wristwatches and pocket watches, his timepieces are highly captivating due to their traditional aesthetics and handcraftsmanship.
Launched earlier this year, the Type 1D-2 is the first Naoya Hida cased in yellow gold, and it perfectly encapsulates the design philosophy of NH Watch Co. Ltd. which tastefully balances simplicity with a meticulous attention to detail, transforming seemingly simple elements into works of artisanal excellence. In juxtaposition with the elegant yellow gold case, the German silver dial on the present lot features beautifully executed micro bead-blasted and satin finishings, and it is swept over by the exquisitely crafted domed gold hands. The periphery of the dial is surrounded by delicate yellow gold dots for the minute track, complementing the phenomenal synthetic Urushi lacquer-filled Breguet numerals, spectacularly hand-engraved by metal engraver Mr. Keisuke Kano who is revered for his superb craftsmanship.
Phillips is immensely honoured to present the first NH Watch Co. Ltd. Type 1D-2 example to appear on the public auction market, and the present one is the first one on offer with custom engraving. Virtually unworn and accompanied by its original certificate and presentation box, it is without a doubt an epitome of timeless and flawless Japanese independent watchmaking that deserves a very special place in the fine collection of a true connoisseur.
Please note that NH Watch Co. Ltd. generously offers a complementary unique engraving service dedicated specifically to the Phillips TOKI: Watch Auction for the winning bidder of this timepiece. The lucky winner will be granted a precious opportunity to work with Mr. Naoya Hida and his team to personalise a unique design for the timepiece.
