There are at least three different versions of the Racing model, which have the common features of a dial with bi-color minute markers on two levels, and chronograph hands of a specific color. The present example belongs to the second version of the Racing model series. Dubbed as the “Racing Professional", this version is defined by its Omega logo in white, the “Professional” designation under the Speedmaster name, and special stepped dial design. This configuration is seen on 105.012 and 145.012, such as the present example. The purpose of this special configuration could have been better legibility of the chronograph function in car racing situations.
Thus far there has been no official information about the status of these Racing models. However, interviews with collectors and Omega managers lend weight to the theory that these special dials and hands could have been developed for projects which never been officially gone through. For years, the Speedmaster has proven to be a big favorite among collectors, and this present example will sure please even the most discerning aficionados.

In 1903, the company changed its name to Omega, becoming the only watch brand in history to have been named after one its own movements.
