Catalogue Essay
On May 29th 2012, a gentleman by the name of Robert-Jan Broer posted a wrist shot of his Speedmaster with a hashtag “#speedytuesday” under a beautiful sunny Tuesday in Cannes. This became a social media phenomenon and caught on quickly by numerous Omega enthusiast and became a cult following ever since. As a tribute to these chronograph devotees, Omega decided to develop a special commemorative Speedmaster to honour the 5th anniversary of this hashtag sensation.

Redefined by the original Alaska Project III Speedmaster from 1978, the present Speedy Tuesday embodies a reverse panda radial dial with incredible vintage appeal. With a white opaline-silvery sub-dials setting against the black dial, the timepiece is truly utilitarian with NASA qualities. Furthermore, turning over the watch reveals the iconic seahorse medallion with the inscription “SPEEDY TUESDAY ANNIVERARY”, numbered 1778 out of a limited edition of 2012 pieces. Offered in excellent condition and accompanied by a striking black and white Nato strap as well as its full accessories, the present tribute edition is surely one to be collected by Omega aficionados.

Omega

Swiss | 1848
Omega's rich history begins with its founder, Louis Brandt, who established the firm in 1848 in La Chaux de Fonds. In 1903, the company changed its name to Omega, becoming the only watch brand in history to have been named after one its own movements. A full-fledged manufacturer of highly accurate, affordable and reliable watches, its sterling reputation enabled them to be chosen as the first watch company to time the Olympic Games beginning in 1932. Its continued focus on precision and reliability ultimately led their Speedmaster chronograph wristwatch to be chosen by NASA in 1965 — the first watch worn on the moon.Key models sought-after by collectors include their first, oversized water-resistant chronograph — the reference 2077, early Speedmaster models such as the CK 2915 and 2998, military-issued versions of the Seamaster and oversized chronometer models such as those fitted with their prestigious caliber 30T2Rg.
