Catalogue Essay
The history of the Omega Speedmaster has long been an admirable asset to both horology and space expeditions. Marking an historic event in human history, the first ever moon landing was executed by astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin at 02:56 GMT 21st July 1969, and the wristwatch worn was of course the Omega Speedmaster Professional ref. 105.003.

In 1999, Omega released the Speedmaster ref. 3560.50.00 as a limited edition of 9,999 pieces made to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the historical event. With a classic black dial with white accents, the charm is perhaps on the caseback where it is inscribed with the date and time of the moon landing as well as famous phrases from astronauts on board “HELLO HOUSTON, TRANQUILITY BASE HERE, THE EAGLE HAS LANDED”. A nice touch and a reminder of the momentous event.

The present example numbered 2,160 of a limited edition of 9,999 is presented in excellent overall condition and is complete with its full set of accessories.

Omega

Swiss | 1848
Omega's rich history begins with its founder, Louis Brandt, who established the firm in 1848 in La Chaux de Fonds. In 1903, the company changed its name to Omega, becoming the only watch brand in history to have been named after one its own movements. A full-fledged manufacturer of highly accurate, affordable and reliable watches, its sterling reputation enabled them to be chosen as the first watch company to time the Olympic Games beginning in 1932. Its continued focus on precision and reliability ultimately led their Speedmaster chronograph wristwatch to be chosen by NASA in 1965 — the first watch worn on the moon.Key models sought-after by collectors include their first, oversized water-resistant chronograph — the reference 2077, early Speedmaster models such as the CK 2915 and 2998, military-issued versions of the Seamaster and oversized chronometer models such as those fitted with their prestigious caliber 30T2Rg.
