Catalogue Essay
-The story of the Omega Ultraman Speedmaster started way before the release of the present wristwatch. A marvel of superpowers and monsters, the Japanese television show “The Return of the Ultraman” debuted on the screens in the mid-1960s. Ultraman is believed to be a compassionate alien superbeing who co-inhabits the body of a human that saves the world by fighting monsters in three minutes before his energy was depleted. In 1968, Omega released a series of ref. 145.012-67SP featuring the famous caliber 321 with an orange chronographic hand. With only an estimated 50 examples known, the Ultraman Speedmaster is one of the most sought after vintage Speedmasters even till date.

-In 2017, Omega collaborated together with Fratello Watches to launch a re-edition of the Speedy Tuesday. Exceptionally well-received, the partnership continued to launch the re-edition of the Ultraman Speedmaster as a limited edition of 2012 pieces. Extremely well executed, the design is indeed very similar to the original Ultraman Speedmaster from the 1960s. With a refreshed design, the new re-edition features a little more orange, such as “Tachymètre”, hour indexes, first three-minute hashes on the 30-minute register and retained is the orange chronographic hand. Furthermore, an additional feature inside the 1-minute register will most certainly put a smile on anyone collector’s face. When UV light is shone upon the surface, the register reveals a glowing orange silhouette of Ultraman’s head, a nice little touch indeed.

-Highly sought after in the market and commanding a premium, the present Omega Speedmaster Ultraman limited edition is a very well-preserved example.

Omega

Swiss | 1848
Omega's rich history begins with its founder, Louis Brandt, who established the firm in 1848 in La Chaux de Fonds. In 1903, the company changed its name to Omega, becoming the only watch brand in history to have been named after one its own movements. A full-fledged manufacturer of highly accurate, affordable and reliable watches, its sterling reputation enabled them to be chosen as the first watch company to time the Olympic Games beginning in 1932. Its continued focus on precision and reliability ultimately led their Speedmaster chronograph wristwatch to be chosen by NASA in 1965 — the first watch worn on the moon.Key models sought-after by collectors include their first, oversized water-resistant chronograph — the reference 2077, early Speedmaster models such as the CK 2915 and 2998, military-issued versions of the Seamaster and oversized chronometer models such as those fitted with their prestigious caliber 30T2Rg.
