Catalogue Essay
• Cloisonné enamel dial timepieces are among the most collectable and desirable watches today, coveted for their rarity and exquisite handcrafted workmanship. These works of art were the pinnacle of luxury in the mid-20th century with brands like Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Rolex, and Omega working with artisans to produce enamel dials with scenes from mythology, landscape, maps, animals, and the cosmos. Many Swiss brands worked with the famed Stern Frères dial maker creating unique commissioned pieces or examples in very limited numbers. Between 1946-1956 Omega was prolific in producing an extraordinary collection of cloisonné enamel dial timepieces. The Omega “1894” was released in 1994 in celebration of Omega’s centenary.

• The “1894” was produced in a limited number of 100 examples. The cloisonné enamel dial features a vibrant floral motif reminiscent of the golden age of enamel dial craftsmanship. The model was most notably fitted with a new old stock movement, caliber 286,appreciated by collectors for its reliability and accuracy and considered one of their best movements. This watch was confirmed by the Omega Heritage Deparment as being delivered to the USA August 12, 1999.

• The present example, number 26, is housed in an 18 karat yellow gold case measuring 35.5mm diameter. It is presented in excellent overall condition and offered complete with its warranty and presentation box.

Omega

Swiss | 1848
Omega's rich history begins with its founder, Louis Brandt, who established the firm in 1848 in La Chaux de Fonds. In 1903, the company changed its name to Omega, becoming the only watch brand in history to have been named after one its own movements. A full-fledged manufacturer of highly accurate, affordable and reliable watches, its sterling reputation enabled them to be chosen as the first watch company to time the Olympic Games beginning in 1932. Its continued focus on precision and reliability ultimately led their Speedmaster chronograph wristwatch to be chosen by NASA in 1965 — the first watch worn on the moon.Key models sought-after by collectors include their first, oversized water-resistant chronograph — the reference 2077, early Speedmaster models such as the CK 2915 and 2998, military-issued versions of the Seamaster and oversized chronometer models such as those fitted with their prestigious caliber 30T2Rg.
