Catalogue Essay
- Jiro Katayama, the founder of the brand Otsuka Lotec, has cultivated a considerable following among discerning collectors. Despite its distribution being limited exclusively to Japan, Otsuka Lotec has gained global recognition for its steampunk-inspired and intriguing watch designs.

- Following the success of the Phillips debut in the TOKI auction, we are thrilled to present the first Model No. 5 to be offered in the auction market. This regulator-style watch is a sight to behold, featuring an hours disc at 12 o’clock, a minutes disc at 6 o’clock, and a small seconds aperture at the center. The added date function further enhances its practicality as an everyday timepiece. The movement is a true gem, heavily modified by Kitayama from a Miyota 8215 caliber, tailored to this unique orientation.

- Distinguished from conventional stainless steel cases, the present watch is part of a very exclusive limited edition showcasing a bronze case, often reserved for Katayama's most exclusive clients and friends. Bronze is a rare and unconventional material in watchmaking, seldom utilized due to its tendency to oxidize when exposed to air over time.

- Taking craftsmanship to the next level, the bronze case is hand-hammered from the bezel and extends to the lugs using the “槌目” (Tsuchime) technique, typically seen in Japanese handcrafted cups and knives. This technique creates a stunning pattern that adds visual depth and accentuates the steampunk aesthetic.

- The true beauty of this watch lies in its ability to develop a unique patina over time, influenced by factors such as temperature, humidity, and regular wear. Accompanied by its full set of accessories and limited to 22 pieces, this watch is in exceptional condition, eagerly awaiting its new owner's journey as they witness the gradual oxidation process unfold in their own distinct way.
