The World Time system was invented by master watchmaker Louis Cottier in 1935. The ingenious system allowed the wearer to view multiple time zones immediately. Watches featuring the World Time system were fitted with two discs, which could be easily adjusted to change and compare the time of various cities around the world. Such is the genius of the World Time mechanism, that Cottier’s invention is still used today. Patek Philippe’s most modern interpretation is reference 5130 and 5131.
This platinum reference 5130, made in 50 examples, was made exclusively for Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons of Dubai to celebrate the retailer’s 60th Anniversary and the 50 year relationship between Seddiqi and Patek Philippe. The case back is printed "Commemorative Piece 1950-2010" to celebrate the auspicious event, along with the retailer’s logo – a double facing ‘S’.
The time zone for Dubai is highlighted in red, emphasizing its importance and contrasting wonderfully against the black dial.
Offered in excellent condition, it is the first time in auction history that a ‘World Time Dubai’ has ever appeared on the market.
