Catalogue Essay
In 2006, Patek Philippe introduced the new Nautilus models to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the first Patek Philippe sports model. Replacing the legendary ref. 3700 was the new ref. 5711 with several other models launched alongside, such as the ref. 5712 and the ref. 5980. Whilst the ref. 5712 was pretty much similar to the rare and short-lived ref. 3712, the ref. 5980 was the first of its kind. Featuring a chronograph complication, it was the first Nautilus to incorporate such feat. Powering the watch was Patek Philippe’s first in-house self-winding chronograph cal. CH 28-520, which is another ground breaking feature on its own.

The present example with a black dial from circa 2010, is presented in immaculate “like new” overall condition and is accompanied by the full set of accessories with a Certificate of Origin stamped by an Italian retailer. Furthermore, stainless steel examples of the reference has been discontinued since 2014, and replaced by the new ref. 5990.
