- The Patek Philippe ref. 3940 has become one of the most sought-after neo-vintage perpetual calendar amongst collector’s radar. The model was launched in 1985 and was a creation under the leadership by none other than Mr. Philippe Stern. At the time of production, it was the first self-winding perpetual calendar powered by the incredible ultra-thin micro-rotor cal. 240Q. Such versatility, lightness and slenderness did not compromise the movement’s exceptional reliability at all, in fact the timepiece boasts an incredible 48-hour power reserve. Measuring 36mm in diameter, the timepiece is extremely comfortable on the wrist and can be dressed up or down according to the occasion.
- The wristwatch was encased predominately in yellow gold, with fewer examples in pink and white gold, and very rarely in platinum. In 1985, the first 25 watches were produced to celebrate the 225th anniversary of the famed retailer Chronometrie Beyer in Zürich with numbered watches. That same year, the brand began standard production of the reference and continued to produce it until 2007 when they replaced the 3940 with the reference 5140 powered by the same caliber 240 movement, but with a case measuring 37mm in diameter.
- Presented with its original Certificate of Origin and box, this Patek Philippe reference 3940 is a third series example that was sold in 2002. It is offered in excellent overall condition and is a unique opportunity to own a coveted, contemporary and elegant perpetual calendar timepiece.
