- This is the most luxurious version of the model: platinum case and diamond-set indexes
- Featuring the hallowed tonneau-shaped calibre 9’’’90
In production during the 1950s and early 1960s, reference 2461 features one of the most architectural designs ever produced by Patek Philippe in the vintage era. Not only does the rectangular case present an abundance of edges and contrasting satin and brushed finishes, but the crystal is also highly unusual, featuring two facets meeting in a horizontal edge across the middle of the watch. As if this were not distinctive enough, the dial exhibits a very uncommon two-part construction with a spectacular satin finish, adding dynamic visual movement to the ensemble. The attention to detail extends to the movement as well, with a rectangular calibre (cal. 9’’’90) perfectly fitted to the case, rather than a “recycled” round movement as is sometimes seen in less important rectangular timepieces.
With a restricted production estimated at only a few hundred pieces across the four noble metals, the model was already quite uncommon at the time of its launch. More than half a century later, this remains even more true: analysis of past auction records shows that only a few dozen examples of this model in platinum have ever appeared on the public market.
