Catalogue Essay
The now-discontinued Patek Philippe Calatrava ref. 4897R is a sophisticated reinterpretation of the brand’s ultra-thin ladies’ timepiece, presented in a warm 18K pink gold case. It was introduced in 2009 as a response to the enthusiastic reception of ultra-thin mechanical watches for women following the launch of ref. 4896G in 2006.

The ref. 4897R retains the signature elegance of the collection. Its bezel is adorned with 72 Top Wesselton round diamonds, framing a dial decorated with a concentrically guilloché wave motif that adds depth and refinement. In addition to the rich dark chocolate brown dial seen in the present example, the model was also offered in champagne, blue, and pearly white variants.

The dial is further enhanced by pink gold arrow-shaped hour markers and faceted dauphine hands that appear to float above the surface, contributing to its ethereal charm.

At its heart, the Calatrava ref. 4897R is powered by the ultra-thin, manually wound calibre 215, a hallmark of Patek Philippe’s dedication to mechanical excellence and artisanal craftsmanship. Offered in well-preserved condition along with its original accessories, this distinctive present example is further elevated by its original brown satin strap, which harmoniously echoes the rich tones of the dark chocolate brown guilloché dial. This thoughtful pairing enhances the watch’s visual coherence and elegance, underscoring the brand’s meticulous attention to detail.
